Juvenile gorilla Bukavu and his mother Sekani joined the Zoo’s gorilla troop last year on behalf of a breeding recommendation. It takes a special and tolerant silverback to accept offspring that are not his own. Because of Elmo’s experience with young male gorillas and his consistent laid-back temperament, keepers were confident that Elmo would take Bukavu under his wing.
