President Trump discussed how he came to give up on negotiating with Vladimir Putin, during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the White House on Monday, as the U.S. agrees to sell new and more weapons to Europe and Ukraine.

Speaking to reporters at Joint Base Andrews, President Trump also told reporters he would send more advanced Patriot missile defense batteries to Ukraine, which NATO member countries would pay for.

"I thought he was somebody that meant what he said and he'll talk so beautifully, and then he'll bomb people at night. We don't like that. Thank you, everybody," President Trump said when asked about Vladimir Putin.
