WASHINGTON (AP) — Former President Donald Trump, following an apparent assassination attempt on him on Sunday, claimed that overheated rhetoric from Democrats was responsible for him being under threat.

The former President was unharmed, and a suspect has been charged, after shots were fired while Trump was golfing in Florida.

There is widespread concern that the November election will not end well and that American democracy has frayed to the breaking point.
