A weather system tracking the Southeast U.S. coastline has officially strengthened this Friday into Tropical Depression 3, according to the National Hurricane Center.
The tropical depression is expected to intensify into a stronger rotating system to become Tropical Storm Chantal by Saturday, forecasters said.
Chantal made landfall near Litchfield Beach, South Carolina, at approximately 4 a.m. July 6 and is moving inland over northeastern South Carolina.
More than 100 residential structures were damaged or impacted during Tropical Depression Chantal in Orange County, according to a preliminary assessment released on Saturday.
