The Leinenkugel brewery in Chippewa Falls will close on Friday as Molson Coors consolidates operations in Milwaukee.

The famous Leinenkugel's brewery in Chippewa Falls hasn't been owned by a member of the Leinenkugel family since 1988, but some members of the family want to change that.

An attempt to keep Leinenkugel's in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin has reportedly failed, according to Jake and Dick Leinenkugel, who say Molson Coors rejected an offer to enter into purchasing negotiations.

The Leinenkugel Brewery in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, will permanently close its doors on Friday after more than 150 years in operation.

The Leinenkugel family has indicated it is still interested in acquiring the Chippewa Falls brewery from Molson Coors, despite the latter having allegedly rejected these efforts. The US beer major announced plans to close the Chippewa Falls site in November. An additional facility in Milwaukee was also due to shut its doors.

Jake and Dick Leinenkugel sent out a statement Wednesday saying that the Leinenkugels aim to acquire the Chippewa Falls brewery from Molson Coors.

Molson Coors is permanently closing the brewery this week and moving production to its main site in Milwaukee.

Dick Leinenkugel says Molson Coors CEO told him discussions were not prudent and the company is ‘fully committed’ to Leinenkugel’s brand.

In a statement, Jake and Dick Leinenkugel reveal they have offered to buy the Chippewa Falls brewery. According to the statement, Molson Coors’ declined to pursue an NDA. The Leinenkugel brothers then followed up but haven’t heard back.
