The North and South Taurids occur every year in September, October, and November. They may have originated from a comet that broke up about 10,000 years ago.

Another astronomical event could be visible in the coming nights as the second branch of the Taurid meteor shower reaches its peak.

It's shaping up to be a big week for skywatchers: two different meteor showers will shoot across the sky in the coming days, along with November supermoon to kick off the weekend. The Northern Taurids will peak tonight,

The meteor showers will reach their zenith early Tuesday morning and come just a week after the Southern Taurids peaked. The sister showers only produce around five visible meteors per hour under ideal viewing conditions.
