The Windows 10 world is still reeling from the news that Microsoft has finally extended the end-of-life deadline from October 2025 by a further 12-months, subject to that $30 stipend of course. But it’s not available to everyone, and there are still 50 million Windows users at serious risk that need to act fast.

– Some 65% of Windows users are still using Windows 10. – Some PCs that run Windows 10, and are still fast enough for their owners, do not support Windows 11. To upgrade to the new software, the user would need to purchase a new computer.

Another user flagged that after they installed Windows 10 KB5044273 updates, their apps did not start automatically when they login to Windows. The auto-start for Wallpaper Engine, TranslucentTB, is broken after the patch. The bug is related to an issue that crashes apps in Windows 10.

The more serious challenge, though, will be one of user inertia. At last count, estimates are that there remain 900 million PCs running Windows 10, of which only 400 million are not technically capable of the leap to Windows 11.

Tech support won't be offered for Windows 10, but security updates will roll out past 2025 with the Extended Security Updates option.
