(Reuters) -At least eight people were injured in a fire at the Indian oil Corp's 8 million metric tons per annum (MTPA) refinery in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, late Tuesday, the country's top refiner said on Wednesday.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud explosion followed by flames shooting up from the Mathura refinery. Flames were visible from several kilometres away, they said.

A blast at the Indian Oil refinery in Mathura injured eight workers, three of whom are in critical condition. The explosion occurred during the restart of a maintenance-closed unit, leading to severe burns.
