Maryland's second case of the H5N1 bird flu has been detected at a poultry farm in Queen Anne's County, according to the Maryland Department of Agriculture.

The highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza, or bird flu, continues to spread on Delmarva with Queen Anne’s becoming the latest county to detect the virus.

The news comes in the midst of HPAI cases in a commercial poultry operation in Kent County, Del., plus one in Caroline County, Maryland.

Concern rises after positive cases found in wild birds and poultry in Delaware’s Kent County and on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

A case of the avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, was confirmed in Caroline County, and it marks the first case at one of Maryland’s commercial poultry facilities since 2023.

Bird flu is suspected to have caused the death of multiple wild birds recovered across the state last week, New Jersey Fish and Wildlife announced. At least seven snow geese, two Canada geese, and two hawks have yielded presumptive positive results so far for avian influenza,

If you have a backyard birth feeder and bird bath, it’s a good idea to take them down. That’s according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. The agency also recommends not feeding ducks and other waterfowl that flock at area parks.
