Court case, NCAA waiver could change the course for the future of JUCO athletes
Just before Christmas, a court ruling gave Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia an extra year of eligibility after he contested that his years of eligibility should not be affected by his time in junior college (JUCO) football.
NCAA grants waiver for extra eligibility year for additional JuCo athletes
Last week, Diego Pavia was granted an injunction that allowed the soon-to-be-former Vanderbilt quarterback another year of eligibility on the grounds that the NCAA should not be allowed to count his two years at New Mexico Military Institute, a junior college, against his NCAA eligibility.
What NCAA’s JUCO waiver ruling means for Washington Huskies
Initially, the ruling applied only to Pavia before the NCAA’s board of directors, made up of university presidents, announced a blanket waiver for all junior college athletes who, like Pavia, exhausted their eligibility after this season. The board also announced it will appeal the ruling.
