DETROIT — If Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh is going to make history before the All-Star break, it will be at the expense of the Detroit Tigers. Raleigh bashed his 37th and 38th home runs of the season against the Tigers on Friday to pull just one away from Barry Bonds’ 2001 record for home runs before the break.

The Tigers started the best pitcher in baseball Tarik Skubal, and the Mariners managed four runs off him in five innings of work. Raleigh, though, didn't get his licks in until Skubal had given way to the Detroit bullpen. Homer No. 1 of the night came off Tyler Holton in the eighth inning.

Cal Raleigh hit his 38th homer with a grand slam vs. the Tigers, joining elite company and closing in on Barry Bonds' record.
