Israel on Saturday approved a ceasefire deal with Palestinian militant group Hamas that involves release of hostages in the Gaza Strip, and Israeli forces struck in the enclave before the agreement's scheduled start on Sunday.

The full Israeli cabinet passed the agreement during a meeting that continued into the Jewish Sabbath, setting up the first reprieve in Gaza in over a year.

At least 90 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip by Israeli Army attacks since the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas was announced earlier this week in Qatar, according to medical sources cited Friday by Palestinian news agency Wafa.
