All five living presidents will be present to honor the late former President Jimmy Carter during his funeral service at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. on Thursday morning.

Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, will be eulogized at a state funeral Thursday at the National Cathedral and later by private family services and interment in Plains, Georgia.

Government agencies and major stock exchanges will be closed on Thursday to honor Jimmy Carter, who served as the 39th U.S. president.

Mr. Carter said his spiritual rebirth was an “evolutionary thing” rather than “a flash of light or a sudden vision of God speaking.”

Jimmy Carter, a steel-willed Southern governor who was elected president in 1976, died at his home in Plains, Georgia, on Dec. 29, according to his son James E. Carter III, known as Chip. He was 100 and the oldest living U.S. president of all time. Follow live updates from the memorial services.

The ceremonies will conclude in his hometown of Plains, Georgia, where he will be buried beside his wife of 77 years, Rosalynn Carter, who passed away in 2023. Together, the Carters had long planned their modest resting place in Plains, where they began their lives together on a peanut farm.

Jan. 9, federal departments and agencies will close in observation of the former president’s death as he lays in state in Washington, D.C.

President Jimmy Carter will be eulogized by President Joe Biden in Washington D.C. on Thursday, in a service that is expected to see all five living presidents attend, including President-elect Trump, and former presidents Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and George W. Bush.
