Tesla will open its first India showroom in Mumbai next week, having imported $1 million worth of cars and merchandise, marking its entry into the world's third-largest car market despite CEO Elon Musk's complaints about high import tariffs.

Tesla will continue with its direct-to-customer retail model with a company-owned showroom in India. It has hired several local personnel for store manager, sales, and service executive roles.

Tesla has signalled its entry into the Indian market with a teaser post on X, featuring the words “India” and “July 2025” against the backdrop of high-rise buildings. This is the company’s first announcement for India and comes ahead of the opening of its first showroom in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) on July 15.
