Hobart Hurricanes' Mitchell Owen is set for the global stage after a "life-changing" BBL final, say cricketing commentators.

Hobart opener Mitchell Owen has produced the knock of his life, smashing 108 off 42 to steer the Hurricanes to a first Big Bash League title.

Opener Mitchell Owen hit a 42-ball century to lead the Hobart Hurricanes to their first Big Bash League title, beating the Sydney Thunder by seven wickets in the Australian Twenty20 domestic final.

The 23-year-old Mitchell Owen had announced himself earlier in the competition with a thrilling 64-ball century against Perth Scorchers in a low-scoring encounter. But against a Thunder side led by Warner, one of the T20 greats, and featuring two players of Indian descent – the unrelated Jason and Tanveer Sangha – few expected him to be the hero.

A record-equalling century by Mitchell Owen and a three-wicket haul by skipper Nathan Ellis helped Hobart Hurricanes secure their maiden Big Bash League (BBL) title, beating Sydney Thunder in the final at Hobart by seven wickets.

Owen's record-breaking propelled his side, Hobart Hurricanes, to their maiden BBL title. They chased down 183 in just 14.1 overs to script history. Notably, Owen now shares the fastest BBL ton record with Craig Simmons, who hammered a 39-ball ton in 2014.
