The brand partnered with Breakthrough T1D, formerly JDRF, a diabetes research organization, to create the doll. Barbie said in a news release that it is also donating dolls to the Breakthrough T1D 2025 Children's Congress,

The new doll is part of the brand’s inclusive Fashionistas line, which allows more children to see themselves reflected in Barbie and encourages a view beyond their lived experience.

Barbie have also released toys with blindness and Down’s syndrome. The toy is available at Argos and costs £10. It is also listed on Smyths Toy Superstores for £9.99 though it’s out of stock online as of the time of writing.
