A major heat wave broke temperature records across northwest Europe this week, triggered water shortages in the U.K. and, ironically, sent power prices plunging — even into negative territory.

Jakub Mensik collapsed on court after his second-round win and Novak Djokovic sweltered for almost four hours as players were made to work hard on another hot Paris day at the French Open.

Djokovic came to Roland Garros with questions over his form after getting beat in his only clay-court match before the tournament. He lost to Croatian qualifier Dino Prizmic at the Italian Open after missing two months because of a right shoulder injury.
