Volunteers hope walkers will be using the first section of the Alnwick to Cornhill line in Northumberland by the summer. Work is to begin shortly to install a new bridge and clear ditches.

Its customers will need to travel to Berwick as Barclays is also closing its Alnwick branch 16 miles away (25km). The firm said the closures were in response to changing customer habits.
