Thing is, the Yankees were giving off the vibe of a locomotive rolling down the tracks. They’d annihilated the Cubs on Friday, 11-0, and had their best pitcher, Max Fried, on the mound on Saturday. Reason enough to think momentum was on their side, right? Not quite.

The Cubs offense gave Boyd a one-run lead to work with from the get-go. Nico Hoerner led off with a triple and then scored on Kyle Tucker’s groundout. The Cubs then rallied for three runs in the third inning, and Carson Kelly tacked on a solo home run in the eighth.

And lefthander Carlos Rodon certainly pitched like one on Friday night by turning in his best performance of the season as the Yankees dominated the NL Central-leading Cubs. 11-0, before a sellout crowd of 46,327 at the Stadium.
