The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has issued a showcause notice to Reliance Power and its subsidiary, Reliance NU BESS Ltd., questioning why criminal action should not be initiated against them following the submission of allegedly fake bank guarantees (BGs) in recent tender bids,

SECI asked Reliance Power to explain why it should not initiate criminal proceedings in view of the fraudulent and forged actions.

Last week, SECI imposed a three-year ban on Reliance Power from participating in its clean energy project tenders after discovering that one of its units had submitted a counterfeit foreign bank guarantee.

Reliance Power did not immediately respond to a Reuters request seeking comment on the notice. Last week, the company said that it would legally challenge SECI's ban and had lodged a police complaint against the third party that arranged the bank guarantee.
