Jimmy Snuggerud scored twice and helped the No. 4/3 Golden Gophers men's hockey team rally for a 3-3 tie on the road at No. 2 Michigan State inside Munn Ice Arena Saturday night.

It was a much better effort from the fourth-ranked Gophers men's hockey team and it'll officially go down as a 3-3 tie with No. 2 Michigan State. But it was the Spartans who picked up the extra point in a shootout Saturday in East Lansing, Mich.

Matt Basgall, Joey Larson and Tanner Kelly each scored an even-strength goal for Michigan State, which improved to 20-3-3 overall, 11-2-3 in the Big Ten. Daniel Larson and Isaac Howard scored in the shootout for the Spartans, while goaltender Trey Augustine stopped both the Gophers’ attempts.

Two top-ranked NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey teams square off on Friday night, and you won’t want to miss it. The Michigan State Spartans host the Minnesota Golden Gophers for a two-game stint beginning on Friday, January 24, 2025, and concluding on Saturday, January 25, 2025.

Jimmy Snuggerud's goal made it a 5-3 game headed into the third period, but the Spartans lit the lamp four more times for the 9-3 final score. It is the most goals scored by an MSU team against Minnesota since Feb. 1, 1980.

Junior forwards Isaac Howard and Daniel Russell scored in the shootout to give MSU the extra point in the Big Ten standings after tying in regulation.
