Manduria is a city and comune of Apulia, Italy, in the province of Taranto. With c. 32,000 inhabitants, it is located 35 kilometres east of Taranto. The name Manduria is thought to derive from a Proto-Indo-European stem *mond-/*mend- or *mando-, meaning 'foal'. The toponym would, then, be of Messapic origin, and related to the semantic field of 'horses', also seen in Illyrian theonym Iuppiter Menzanas and Albanian mëz-i 'foal'.
