The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) operates through a network of five departments, 23 regional centres, two sub-regional centres, two NIOS cells, and more than 7,400 study centres (AIs/AVIs) across India and abroad.
The Academic Department and the Vocational Education Department are the cornerstone units of NIOS, driving the creation of educational programs and courses tailored to learners’ diverse needs.
The Government of India has vested NIOS with the authority to examine and certify students registered with it in vocational, technical and academic courses upto pre-degree level through Resolution No. F-5-24/90 dated 14 th September 1990 published in Gazette of India dated 20 October 1990.
